We recently had an old timber fence replaced by SP Landscape Fencing. Sam responded promptly for our request for a quote and communicated brilliantly right from the word go. His quote was detailed, fair and arrived in a timely fashion. I love it when tradies deliver what they promise and importantly, when they promise, and this was certainly the case with Sam. He is clearly a skilled fence builder with an eye for detail and a commitment to delivering a quality product using the best materials available. Note the before and after photos. I have no hesitation recommending SP Landscape Fencing and would definitely use Sam’s services again in the future.

SP Fencing and Landscaping were impressive from the very start. Sam was the only contractor who was prompt with coming out to measure for a new fence and garden beds, prompt with returning quotes, and communicative throughout the entire process. He was also very accommodating in presenting options, and making adjustments as we planned the layout. He and his colleague Jack showed up on time every day, did exactly what they said they were going to do, and were flexible and easy to work with. They cared about the quality of their work and explained in full everything they were doing and why. The built results are outstanding. Sam and Jack have my highest of recommendations. I intend to call them again for the next stages of refreshing and updating the courtyard.

Got a fence put up during covid from Sam (4 years ago), beautiful work, super sturdy (has two kids and a rottweiler jumping on it - so has been tested!) It has also survived having the 10ft basketball hoop fall on it multiple times during storms and hasn't left a dint!
Would 100% get him back to do anymore future projects. Thanks!

6 Benefits of a New Fence

A solid fence can act as a barrier, buffering your yard and home from strong coastal winds. Helping make the outdoors more inviting year-round.

Gives Privacy Without Blocking the View

In areas near the foreshore or reserves, fencing can give you the privacy you want without feeling closed in. You can still enjoy the scenery while having your own space.

    Drysdale Fencing FAQs

Do I need a permit to build a fence in Drysdale or Clifton Springs?

For boundary fences between neighbours, the normal height for paling or Colorbond is 1.8 metres, but you can go up to 2 metres without a building permit. If your boundary fence will be over 2 metres, you will need a building permit along with a Council Report and Consent.

Front fences have lower limits. Anything over 1.5 metres high for timber or steel, or over 1.2 metres for masonry, will need approval. Corner properties have extra rules to make sure visibility is safe for drivers and pedestrians, which may mean keeping certain sections lower or set back.

We can help you check the exact fencing requirements for your property before you start. This will help you avoid delays, extra costs, or having to redo work. If you are looking for expert advice and quality fencing Drysdale homeowners can rely on, get in touch with our team today to get started!

What’s the best low-maintenance fencing material for coastal properties?

For low-maintenance fencing solutions in coastal locations in Clifton Springs, like those along Edgewater Drive, we suggest genuine Colorbond steel or powder-coated aluminium. Both are great choices because they resist rust, won’t warp, and only need a quick wash now and then to stay looking fresh. If you love the warmth of timber, you can get wood-look aluminium fences which have the appearance of natural timber but without the constant ongoing maintenance of sealing/painting every couple of years.

I live in an estate in Drysdale. Do I have to follow specific fencing rules?

Many newer estates, such as Central Walk in Drysdale, have design guidelines or covenants that set out what type of fencing you can install. These often cover height, colour, and material to keep a consistent look throughout the neighbourhood. It’s a good idea to check your paperwork or speak with the developer first to clarify what is possible in your specific estate. We can then help you choose a fence that meets the rules while still fitting your home’s style.

My property backs onto a public reserve. Do I split the fence cost with Council?

If your property borders a public reserve such as Lake Lorne or McLeod Waterholes, the cost of building or replacing the dividing fence is your responsibility. The City of Greater Geelong does not contribute to fencing costs for land that is managed as a public reserve. Where Council is required to contribute for other types of neighbouring land, they will only pay half the cost for:

    • A standard timber paling fence up to 1.65 metres high
    • Demolition and removal of the existing fence
    • The lowest-price quote provided

Any fence outside this standard requires written pre-approval, and any extra costs are the landowner’s responsibility. You can also check out the full guidelines on fencing abutting City land for more information.

How often will I need to maintain a fence near the water?

Fences close to the water need more upkeep because of salt air and moisture, which can speed up wear and tear. A well-built Colorbond or aluminium fence will usually just need a hose-down every few months to clear salt build-up. Timber fences should be checked yearly for weathering and resealed or stained every two to three years to protect them from rot. This is especially important for homes in Clifton Springs, where bay breezes and sea spray can weather your fence more quickly.
